Chabot Making Strides On Basketball Court

The Gladiators battle gallantly in wild defeat against Las Positas after beating Foothill; Chabot women looking sharp

Make no mistake, the Chabot men’s basketball program is arriving under first-year coach Keenan McMiller.
The young Gladiators battled gallantly, and effectively, in a wild 96-94 loss to host Las Positas Friday night in Coast-North action.
This one looked like a true rivalry game.
Akili Daniels, who had a dizzying array of clutch shots, led Chabot with 30 points to go with five rebounds and six assists. Melvin Easley IV, Kyle Brown and Daniels combined to go 9 for 14 from 3-point range, and Jordan McGlory also came up big with 21 points and seven boards. He was 7 of 13 from the floor.
Impressively, the Gladiators made it close late despite playing without Jabari Sweet, who suffered a dislocated shoulder in the first two minutes of the contest. Sweet had 23 points and 12 rebounds in the first matchup against Las Positas.
In the game’s aftermath, McMiller tweeted that “your Gladiators fought hard but come up short.”
The Gladiators’ week got off to a strong start with a 59-54 win over Foothill. Sweet led the way with 15 points, seven rebounds, four blocks and three assists. McGlory had a double-double with 15 points and 14 boards. Brown and Daniels both added eight points.
The Gladiators will travel to Skyline Wednesday and then play their final home game of the season against Ohlone on Friday.

CHABOT WOMEN SWEEP SAN JOSE, LAS POSITAS
The Chabot women’s basketball team showed moxie last week in back-to-back wins over San Jose, 62-57, and Las Positas, 75-51, in Coast-North action.
The Gladiators overcame a 12-point halftime deficit to bring down San Jose on Feb. 6, a crucial win as it kept them in the mix for a possible conference championship. Zakiyah Mahoney led the Gladiators with 22 points and nine rebounds, and Kendra Jueitt added 12 points and nine boards.
Against district-rival Las Positas, Jueitt had team-high 18 points and eight rebounds. Mahoney had a sturdy double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Ferryn Steen had 10 points off the bench.
CCSF (18-3, 7-1) leads Skyline (18-7, 7-2) and Chabot (17-8, 6-2) in a tightly bunched group atop the standings.
Las Positas star Ashley Hart had a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds.
Chabot will look to keep it rolling on the road against Skyline on Wednesday and at home against Ohlone on Friday.
