Chabot Star Proctor Wins CCCAA State 800 Championship
In rainy and chilly conditions, Piedmont High graduate matches stadium record with time of 1:50.64. Chabot has two others place third.
Chabot freshman sensation Reece Proctor, a Piedmont High graduate, won the men's 800 meter title at the CCCAA State Championships on Saturday at College of San Mateo.
In rainy and chilly conditions, his winning time of 1 minute, 50.60 seconds matched the stadium record and was 3.1 seconds faster than the runner-up.
Overall, the Gladiators soared in San Mateo. Peter Normann finished third in the men's steeplechase after leading much of the race. He ran a personal-best 9:30, the fourth-fastest time in Chabot history. Roman Johnson had a seasonal best in the 100 of 10.51 in the pouring rain to also place third. Ramir Smith was sixth in the 200 (21.90).

"He absolutely hates losing!" Chabot coach Kyle Robinson states. "He's extremely focused. We create race plans and he perfectly follows them. And above all he has an extremely high lactic threshold."
"Our guys killed it," said a proud Robinson via text message.
Robinson said Proctor was "awesome" coming through the first 400 meters in 54 seconds in third or fourth place. He surged to a commanding lead over the final 200 meters.
The impressive Proctor would have reached 1:49 for the second time this season, or his school record, in better conditions, Robinson said.
"He's responded well to everything we've done and he's been lucky enough to stay 100 percent healthy all year," Robinson said of Proctor.
Proctor becomes the first state champion at Chabot with Robinson as head track coach. Vernon Sallez won the men's 800 state title in the 1970s, and Michelle Beebe was state champion in the women's javelin in 1983.
