The City is excited to share the progress of an ongoing engagement campaign for our Fremont Green Challenge led by the platform's provider Community Climate Solutions (CCS), in partnership with the City's Sustainability team. CCS Program Manager Patrick Jurney has been leading engagement efforts since late 2020 to increase participation and promote carbon emission reductions by households across Fremont. So far this year, CCS has fostered relationships with a wide range of Fremont community organizations such as local faith groups, a large Girl Scout service unit, educators from third grade through high school, youth leaders, and service clubs such as the Rotary, Lions, and Kiwanis clubs. CCS has helped these groups develop and implement custom challenges with goals, timelines, and activities informed by their organization’s structure, scope, and unique culture. For example, the Girl Scout service unit was looking for fun and impactful month-long challenges to provide for their troops, so CCS developed a five-week challenge with supporting tools and resources that made it simple and easy for the volunteer leaders to make a huge impact with their scouts. The challenge included fun informational quizzes and an engaging competition between troops. The results speak for themselves! For the first four months of 2021, the Fremont Green Challenge saw over 1,000 new households join and 1,991 new actions taken to reduce nearly 650 additional tons of carbon dioxide; save 1,503,536 gallons of water; and produce $263,910 in savings.A big thanks to the CCS team and everyone across Fremont who has participated in the Fremont Green Challenge. The City looks forward to building on this success and continuing our partnership with CCS to drive further carbon reductions in our community and help create a cleaner, safer, and healthier future for Fremont!
