Fire crews quickly extinguished a garage fire at a home in a hilly Fremont neighborhood this morning, a fire captain said.

The fire was reported around 11 a.m. at a two-story home on Zapotec Drive near Joshua Place, Fremont fire Capt. Daniel Cardenas said.

The homeowner was working outside and smelled smoke, and then found flames in the garage, Cardenas said. No one else was home at the time.

Firefighters responded and had the fire out about 15 minutes later, Cardenas said.

Cardenas said there was "a lot of smoke throughout the home" and the resident will not be able to live there for the time being.

The homeowner said he had plans to stay with a friend, Cardenas said.

The fire was confined to the garage. The cause is under investigation.

No injuries were reported, he said.
