Driver Critically Injured After Crashing Into Tree

The accident occurred on southbound Interstate 880 south of Mowry Avenue

A driver has been hospitalized after crashing into a large Eucalyptus tree Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

According to the Fremont Fire Department, a motorist became trapped inside a vehicle after crashing into the tree shortly before 4:15 p.m. 

The driver was critically injured and was transported to San Jose Regional Medical Center after firefighters worked for 20 minutes to get out of the vehicle.

California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene and the cause of the accident remains under investigation, according to a Fremont Fire press release.
