FREMONT, CA —A Castro Valley man has been identified as the driver of an SUV who was killed in a fiery crash after he headed the wrong way on Interstate Highway 880 in Fremont last month. The Alameda County coroner's bureau says the victim was 53-year-old Samuel Kim of Castro Valley.
California Highway Patrol officials said Kim was killed after his black 2008 Mercedes-Benz ML350 crashed into a center divider on northbound Highway 880 north of Auto Mall Parkway at 2:19 a.m. on Oct. 25.
A caller told a dispatcher that the driver of the Mercedes was heading south on the highway's northbound lanes, but the SUV crashed while officers were on their way to check on the wrong-way driver, according to the CHP.
