Fremont a New Hotspot for 'Sideshows'
Businesses say there have been drag racing and reckless sideshows almost every night for the last few weeks, KTVU reports.

Fremont police are cracking down on drag racers after numerous complaints of illegal sideshows and car meets in recent weeks.Â
According to KTVU, businesses in an industrial stretch of Fremont Boulevard have reported reckless driving and sideshows — illegal car stunt exhibitions — almost every night for the past few weeks.
A KTVU segment shows tire marks in a business park along with surveillance footage of about 100 cars driving down Fremont Boulevard late at night.

Fremont police said they became aware of the problem recently.Â
Fremont police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques told KTVU that the department would increase enforcement in the problem areas starting Wednesday night. Officers will be monitoring the areas for races, reckless driving and other violations.

Fremont police have also seen an uptick in unpermitted car shows.
On Dec. 6, police reported more than 1,000 people gathered at Pacific Commons for a car meet. The gathering was held in honor of the death of Fast and Furious star Paul Walker.
Police broke up a similar gathering of 150 cars, also at Pacific Commons, on Nov. 29.
