FREMONT, CA — A 63-year-old Fremont man who has been a longtime elementary school teacher was arraigned last month on one felony count of a lewd act upon a child, Fremont police said Tuesday.

Reynaldo Lorenzana was arraigned April 26 in connection with a sexual assault of a fifth-grade student eight or nine years ago when the suspect was an elementary school teacher in the Fremont Unified School District, police said. The victim is now an adult, police said.

"At least two additional independent victims had also come forward, however their cases occurred outside the statute of limitations for prosecution," police said in a news release. "These additional victims will have an opportunity to testify in court to support the current criminal case."
