Fremont Man ID'd As Hayward Pedestrian Crash Victim

He leaves behind a wife and daughter.

HAYWARD, CA — A pedestrian who was killed when he was struck by a vehicle in Hayward last Thursday night was identified by the Alameda County coroner's bureau on Tuesday as 52-year-old Don Grine of Fremont.

A Go Fund Me account established to help Grine's wife Cyndi and teenage daughter says, "Don was a great friend to many, and an even better father and husband to his family."

The website says Grine's sudden passing "left his wife and daughter in shock, grievance and with financial hardships."

The account says Grine "supported his family financially at the utmost level, working multiple jobs endlessly."

Grine's wife Cyndi Grine has worked for the New Haven Unified School District, which is based in Union City, for more than ten years, according to the site.

The Go Fund Me account has raised more than $10,000.

Grine was hit by the vehicle near the intersection of A and Walnut streets at about 9:30 p.m. last Thursday and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman who was driving the vehicle that struck and killed Grine remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.
