Fremont Man Killed In Crash Tuesday Evening

The Alameda County Coroner's Bureau has released his name.

FREMONT, CA — A 68-year-old Fremont motorcyclist was killed in a crash in Fremont on Tuesday evening, police said today.

Police said they received several calls at 6:51 p.m. Tuesday about a crash involving a motorcyclist who had driven off the roadway and down the embankment on Niles Canyon Road.

Several motorists stopped at the scene and began rendering medical aid to the motorcyclist. Fremont police officers and firefighters responded but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He has been
identified by the Alameda County coroner's bureau as Lester Rodrigues.

Traffic unit investigators also responded and took over the investigation and Niles Canyon Road was closed until about midnight while they conducted their probe.

Police said a preliminary investigation suggests that Rodrigues was traveling east on Niles Canyon Road when he lost control of his motorcycle and drove off the roadway.

Police said Rodrigues struck a tree at the bottom of the embankment. The cause of the crash is still under investigation but police said there is no evidence of impairment.
