Fremont Man Killed In I-680 Crash

FREMONT, CA — A 20-year-old motorcyclist died Thursday morning after rear-ending a sedan that was stopped on southbound Interstate Highway 680 in Fremont due to stopped traffic ahead, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The Fremont man, whose name hasn't been released, was riding a white 2008 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle behind a 2006 Chevrolet Impala on southbound Highway 680 around 7 a.m., the CHP said.

The driver of the Impala, a 33-year-old Oakland resident, was traveling in the far-right southbound lane and slowed north of Mission Boulevard.

According to the CHP, the motorcyclist was traveling at an unsafe speed and was unable to stop in time, colliding with the Impala.

The man was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered major injuries. He was taken to a hospital in San Jose, where he died as a result of his injuries.

The driver of the Impala was uninjured in the collision, the CHP said.

Officers closed the two right-most lanes along southbound Highway 680 for about an hour to investigate the collision.
