Fremont Police Patrolling Shopping Centers on Bikes for Holiday Season
The patrols begin this weekend and end Dec. 29 in an effort to curb shopping-related crimes.

Fremont police are making sure residents stay safe during the holiday shopping season by deploying two bicycle officers to retail centers on weekends.
The effort kicks off this weekend and ends Dec. 29.
The bicycle officers aim to curb crimes in shopping centers and parking lots by enhancing the mobility and range of traditional foot and vehicle patrols.

“The maneuverability of a bicycle on a crowded sidewalk or in a shopping center, along with their ability to navigate traffic in parking lots, offers advantages over a vehicle during crowded shopping hours,” Fremont police said in a media release. “
Bicycle officers will also provide cover for regular patrols when staffing is short or when they are busy, police said.
