Fremont Teen Chosen For Prestigious Presidential Scholars Program
Just 161 teens from across the country were chosen for the honor.
FREMONT, CA — There were 4,500 candidates for the 2021 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, with 33 Fremont residents on the list. The semi-finalists list whittled down to three Fremont residents: Arjun Bothra, Brian Fu, and Arya Pratap.
Thursday morning, they learned that just one was chosen: Pratap who attends Saint Francis High School in Mountain View.
The federal Department of Education released the list of 161 seniors Thursday morning who were given the honor, based on academic success, artistic and technical excellence, essays, school evaluations and transcripts, as well as evidence of community service, leadership and demonstrated commitment to high ideals.

Pratap is one of nine students selected from California.
The program was established by an executive order from former President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964, according to a news release from the U.S. Presidential Scholars Office. It recognizes accomplished high school seniors for their efforts.

Students are variously honored for their accomplishments in the arts, career and technical fields, and more broadly, academic achievement.
