Fremont's Penguin Computing Awarded $25 Million Military Contract

The Department of Defense announced Penguin will produce high-performance computing systems for Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio.

FREMONT, CA — The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded a $25 million military contract to Fremont-based Penguin Computing to produce high-performing computing systems for an Air Force base in Ohio, department officials announced last week.

The contract, which was solicited online and received three bids, was awarded to Penguin, and will total $25,480,000, officials said. The contract calls for the local company to produce balanced, commercially available, production-grade computing systems. The equipment will be used at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio the contact calls for the work to be completed by late 2026, the Department of Defense announced.

According to the company, Penguin provided customized, built-to-order server solutions for enterprises and institutions with special hardware requirements. The company complements its hardware and software solutions with Penguin Computing On-Demand (POD)—a public HPC cloud that provides supercomputing capabilities on-demand on a pay-as-you-go basis, according to the Penguin website.

An email sent to Penguin officials seeking comment about the contract was not immediately returned to Patch on Monday.
