Indiaworld: Images of the Global Indian Diaspora Exhibit
An Opening Reception will be held Friday at the Olive Hyde Art Gallery.

FREMONT, CA — The Olive Hyde Art Gallery’s upcoming exhibit, Indiaworld: Images of the Global Indian Diaspora, presents photographer Preston Merchant’s 20-year journey through the communities that trace their lineage to India. In dozens of countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Kenya, Trinidad, Malaysia, and the United States.
Merchant explores the ways in which the experience of migration—sometimes recent, sometimes in the distant past—affects the lives of everyday people.
Diaspora Indians feel the strong pull of an Indian identity, but those ties do not prevent them from creating a culture of their own. Numbering some 30 million, the Indian diaspora has been called one of the most successful migrations in human history. It continues to shape the many countries where it is a significant community and to affect the future of India itself.
