Multiple People Stabbed In Fremont

Police report that 8 people were involved in a brawl that sent some people to jail and others to the hospital.

FREMONT, CA — Fremont Police report that six people were injured Sunday night in an altercation that involved eight people.

Four people have been arrested. Three of the suspects were armed with knives while the fourth was armed with a machete.

One of the suspects, 27-year-old Diadem Velcu of Fremont, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. at a liquor store in the 4900 block of Stevenson Boulevard.

"We have identified and arrested two male juvenile suspects and two adult male suspects," police said in a statement. "All involved parties have been identified and are either in-custody or at a hospital under police observation. We do not believe that there is a public safety threat as this incident involved parties that are all known to each other."

The four victims were paying at the cash register when the suspects approached the victims from behind, police spokesperson Yanneth Contrada said.

The victims tried to defend themselves but all four were injured as were two suspects, Contrada said.

Two victims and one adult suspect remain hospitalized on Monday, she said.

Police say the attack was not gang-related.

An investigation continues.
