Ohlone Guitar Instructor Working on his 5th Decade of Memories
Registration is open for Doug Torres' 51st Fall semester of classical guitar instruction at Ohlone College, in Fremont, Ca.

Music has a way of bringing us back to a simpler time. Sometimes I hear a Mozart piece, and remember being a young child spying on my parents engaging in a late night classical reindevojus on flute and guitar. Inevitably, their late night jam sessions would conclude with an instrumental performance of a particular Carpenter’s Song (Our Day Will Come) that I still have a soft spot for.
After my father completed his 50th year teaching classical guitar at Ohlone College (Fremont, California), I took a moment to reflect with him on how meaningful these musical childhood memories were in creating the person that I am now. My father paused, and asked me to name a few of the songs that created the strongest impression on me. I did, and now most of those musical pieces are on the Fall curriculum for his classical guitar class at Ohlone College in Fremont, California.
Some of the songs on the agenda include: a guitar arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto #1, the awesome Largo from Vivaldi’s Guitar Concerto, the Sinfonia in Gminor by Mozart, the Bach Fugue in Dminor and of course “Our Day Will Come” by The Carpenters. As a child, these were the songs my parents played together that help to create my fondest childhood memories. I am so thankful that now everyone who wants to, can have a similar experience.
