Package Thief Accepts One Year in Prison in Plea Deal

Danielle Gonsalves, 32, was arrested last month after a video of the theft was circulated on YouTube.

An Oakland woman who was captured on video stealing packages from a Fremont porch accepted a plea deal that will land her a year in prison, according to the Fremont Argus.

Danielle Gonsalves, 32, pleaded no contest to petty theft Thursday, the Argus reports.

Gonsalves was arrested Feb. 13 in Oakland in connection to a highly publicized theft on Nov. 17, 2012 in which a woman was seen on video stealing a package and a bag of clothes that were left on the porch of a home on the 4500 block of Meyer Park Circle. The bag of clothes were to be donated to a local charity organization.

The video was circulated by Fremont police on YouTube and received more than 100,000 views, according to the Argus.

At the time of her arrest, Gonsalves was in possession of stolen mail, IDs and credit cards of other victims, according to the Fremont police department.

According to the Argus, Gonsalves will spend one year in prison with four more years on supervised probation. She must also pay a number of fines and restitution.

The Argus reports that Gonsalves is an ex-con who has six other theft-related offenses on her recorded dating as far back as 2001, and served a stint in prison for a commercial burglary in October 2004.

She is scheduled to be be sentenced May 10.
