Pleasanton Woman Killed In Fremont Rollover Crash

The coroner's bureau released the victim's identity. Fremont Police say she caused another crash that injured two people. (Breaking)

FREMONT, CA — The Alameda County coroner's bureau has identified the victim of a deadly crash that closed busy Niles Canyon Road through Monday's evening commute. She was 59-year-old Frances Pagliocca of Pleasanton.

According to Fremont Police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques, Pagliocca initially rear-ended another vehicle as both were traveling east on Niles Canyon Road shortly after 12:30 p.m.

Bosques reports that witnesses said Pagliocca's vehicle had been weaving. They also said that she appeared to be trying to pass the other vehicle at the time of the crash. Bosques said the collision caused the driver of the other vehicle to lose control and go down an embankment near a creek. The driver and a passenger in the second vehicle suffered injuries that weren't life-threatening, Bosques said.

Pagliocca didn't help the victims who were injured but instead sped off east on Niles Canyon Road, according to Bosques. A short time later, her vehicle wandered into the westbound lanes and swerved to avoid hitting an oncoming vehicle. Pagliocca's car then went off the road, up an embankment, went airborne and landed on its roof. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tuesday evening, Fremont Police posted an account of the two crashes on Facebook.

The posting reads, in part,

"While the investigation remains ongoing, traffic officers interviewed witnesses as well as the driver and passenger of a second vehicle that had been struck by the driver just moments before the fatal collision. Officers learned the female driver, a 59 year old Pleasanton resident, had been driving eastbound in Niles Canyon and was tailgating the vehicle in front of her. She weaved within the lane in what appeared to be an attempt to pass the driver. In doing so, she rear-ended the vehicle causing the driver to lose control and go down an embankment. The vehicle stopping short of reaching the water. The driver and passenger in the vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries.

"The female driver sped away from the scene of the collision at a high rate of speed, continuing eastbound. As she went under a train bridge, her vehicle moved into the westbound lanes, while still driving eastbound. The driver swerved to avoid a collision with a westbound motorist and went up the embankment of a rock wall, causing the vehicle to flip over and land on its roof. When medical personnel arrived at the scene, she was pronounced deceased."

The section of Niles Canyon Road where the crashes occurred was closed until about 7 p.m. Monday, according to Bosques.
