Police Log: Marijuana Grow Site; Road Rage; Unexplained Gunshot

The following is a summary of significant crime and incidents reported in Fremont between Aug. 29 and Sept. 4 as released by the Fremont Police Department. 

Wednesday, Sept. 4
  • Stalker and stalker's relative arrestedFor the second day in a row, officers were sent to the Extended Stay America hotel. On Tuesday, police arrested a stalking suspect wanted by the UC Santa Barbara police. On Wednesday, they followed up to arrest the suspect's relative who was also staying at the hotel. The relative allegedly called the stalking victim in attempts to intimidate her.
  • Woman refuses to exit restroom, attacks officerOfficers were sent to the Peet's Coffee on Paseo Padre Parkway to investigate a woman who locked herself in the bathroom. She had been in the restroom for 45 minutes and workers believed she was bathing inside. Arriving officers tried to talk her out of the restroom for 20 minutes before entering it. The found the woman shirtless. And angry. She allegedly yelled and came at the officers with clenched fists. She was eventually arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest. 
  • Woman beaten for cell phoneA woman was battered and robbed of her cell phone at about 8:50 p.m. at the Walmart on Osgood Road. The male suspect fled in a vehicle. 
  • Lucky lotto ticket thief gets awayA burglar made off with lottery tickets after smashing the window at Charter Square Liquors on the 34100 block of Fremont Blvd. The suspect was described as possibly Hispanic or South Asian Indian, about 25 to 35 years old, 5-foot-9 to 6-foot-1 with a light skinned complexion and full beard. He was wearing a hoodie and orange t-shirt. He smashed the window with a river rock.
Tuesday, Sept. 3
  • BART bike theft. A white/black/red Specialized Hardrock  21 speed mountain bike, with no serial numbers and valued at $500, was stolen from a BART bike rack. The bike was secured with a cable lock on Sunday at 7 p.m.  and left overnight.  The victim returned Monday at 6 a.m. and discovered the theft.  BART PD CASE #1309-0371. Monday, Sept. 2
  • Man arrested for drugs, but won't discuss being shot. A 32-year-old pedestrian was arrested by officers at the Irvington Safeway for allegedly being under the influence and his attempted ingestion of a controlled substance. Fremont Fire responded, as well, and the man was transported to a hospital where it was discovered that he was recently shot in the arm. The suspect was uncooperative, however, and would not disclose details.
  • Unwanted guest returns, is arrested. Officers responded at6:30 p.m. to an unwanted-guest disturbance on the 3600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue.  A male, 39, was asked to leave and did. Three hours later, however, he returned and forced his way into the dwelling. Police, again, escorted him out, and he was arrested for battery and trespassing. 
  • Zzzz's at Strizzis. Police were called at 10:15 a.m. to Strizzis on Mowry Avenue regarding a transient asleep on the restaurant's patio deck. The man was arrested for an outstanding warrant.
Sunday, Sept. 1
  • Pot spot identified. A marijuana-growing facility was discovered at 12:20 p.m. in a building on Encyclopedia Circle. Major Crimes is investigating.
  • Three arrested after suspected road rage attack. An individual was punched, struck with a bat and suffered a broken arm following a possible road rage incident near Ardenwood Boulevard and Highway 84 at 5:15 p.m. Three suspects reportedly attacked the victim and fled, but the victim was able to provide a partial license plate number. The suspects, two adults and a juvenile, were tracked to the 34000 block of Frederick Lane and arrested.

Saturday, Aug. 31
  • Chaos on Mosswood. Officers were called to a Mosswood Drive residence at 12:10 a.m. regarding a man and woman arguing. The woman had reportedly arrived at the residence with an empty bag, and left with her bag full of personal belongings. The 41-year-old female was located on the street as she was leaving and was arrested for allegedly being under the influence.  
  • Mental evaluation case begins with stolen puppy report. An individual reported being robbed of a puppy at 10 a.m. on Great Salt Lake Drive near Lowry Park by a suspect who reportedly took the puppy by force, fled, and then released the dog but kept the leash.  Officers located a suspect matching the description. The man initially ran into his home, then came out through his garage, but communicated little with officers and exhibited strange behavior. Neighbors confirmed he suffered from a mental disorder. Officers, along with a friend of the man, were able to convince him to obtain medical treatment, and he was transported to a local hospital. 
Friday, Aug. 30
  • Shooting at Bosworth home. A shooting was reported at 12:50 a.m. on Bosworth Court when a resident claimed to hear a single gunshot and found a large hole in the front door. Story here.    
  • Thirty-four cited. In an effort to reduce Fremont accidents, a traffic-enforcement operation was set up in the Mohave Drive and Mission Boulevard areas. Out of more than 40 stops, 34 citations were issued. 
Thursday, Aug. 29
  • Armed robbery in Sprouts lot. A woman was robbed of her purse in Sprouts lot on Mowry Avenue at 11:40 a.m. as she loaded groceries into her car. A female grabbed the handbag and got into a waiting vehicle. A third-party witness attempted to intervene, but the male driver brandished a handgun. The pair drove off east on Mowry in a 1990s, tan, smallish four-door sedan, with license number ”-HAD---." The victim's keys were in her purse, so officers gave her a ride home and suggested she cancel her credit cards. The suspects were described as: Hispanic male, in his 30s, curly, black, shoulder- length hair, and wearing a white top; and a Hispanic woman in her 30s with dark hair. 
  • Felony hit-and-run. A bicyclist was hit by a car at 4:10 p.m. on the 4200 block of Central Avenue. Although it appeard the cyclist may be at fault, the driver fled and has not been located. The bicyclist suffered a compound fracture and was bleeding heavily at the scene.
