Row for a Cause: Breast Cancer Patients
June 19 Fundraiser to Benefit HERS Breast Cancer Foundation
Did you know that:
- About 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 13%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.
- In 2021, an estimated 281,550 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 49,290 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer.
- About 2,650 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in men in 2021. A man’s lifetime risk of breast cancer is about 1 in 833.
- About 43,600 women in the U.S. are expected to die in 2021 from breast cancer
With statistics like these, it is no wonder that many of us have either experienced a diagnosis or have a loved one who has been impacted by this terrible disease. While there are many advocacy groups in the Bay Area, one local nonprofit, HERS Breast Cancer Foundation, stands out with its mission of supporting all individuals healing from breast cancer, regardless of financial status, by providing post-surgical products (bras, prosthetics, compression garments, and wigs) and expert assessment and fitting services.
HERS Assistance Programs are made possible by donations, grants, and fundraisers such this Saturday's Row for a Cause at Pleasanton's Row House. HERS is working closely with owner Anishka Peiris to make this event a success which includes offering every registrant the opportunity to win a raffle basket worth $100!
