Teen Shot To Death In Fremont ID'd

He was killed last week, shortly before midnight on Dec.4.

FREMONT, CA — A teenager who was fatally shot while he and another person were driving in Fremont last week was identified by the Alameda County coroner's bureau as 17-year-old Damani Chadly.

Officers who responded to a shooting in the 34000 block of Torrington Court at 11:18 p.m. on Dec. 4 found Chadly with multiple gunshot wounds in the passenger seat of the vehicle, which had crashed into a home at the corner of Chaucer Drive and Torrington Court, police said.

Chadly was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:35 p.m.

Police said witnesses reported a second male running away from the scene and officers located him nearby at about 11:50 p.m. suffering from gunshot wounds.

The second victim was transported to a hospital to be treated for his injuries but has since been released, according to Fremont police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques.

The investigation into the shooting is continuing and no one has been arrested, Bosques said.

Coroner's officials didn't list a city of residence for Chadly, who was a senior at California High School in San Ramon, according to a GoFundMe campaign that seeks to raise $35,000 for Chadly's family.

The campaign had raised over $6,000 as of this afternoon.

The GoFundMe page says, "We are devastated by the tragic loss of Damani, also known as Elijah. Please support his father, Radio Reem (Kareem) at this difficult time as he mourns the death of his only child."

The site says, "Both Damani and his dad Kareem are cherished members of the Youth Radio and Bay Area Media Community."

It says Damani Chadly was "always full of life and bustling energy" and describes him as "a vibrant and talented young man who was a part of the fabric of our life and work."

The website says, "Damani was not only an impressive artist and welcoming person, but he was also an outstanding student, musician, and friend."

The site says the GoFundMe campaign was set up by the Youth Radio Alumni Network and all proceeds will go to Chadly's family to help cover the costs of funeral arrangements and to develop a foundation that honors his life by supporting arts, music, and youth development programs.
