Wieckowski to Honor Asian American Community Leaders
Anna Muh and Phong La of Fremont are among those to be honored during Assemblymember Bob Wieckowski's third annual Asian Pacific Islander American Heritage Leadership Awards Friday in Milpitas.

Two Fremont community leaders are among those being honored Friday during Assemblymember Bob Wieckowski’s third annual Asian Pacific Islander American Heritage Leadership Awards.
The event recognizes four Asian American leaders and their contributions to local education, business, civil rights and government.
“Each of these individuals illustrates in their own way the broad contributions made by the Asian Pacific Islander community in the region,” Wieckowski said. “Year after year, their level of civic engagement is nonstop. I am honored to take a moment to recognize their activism and service.”

Among the honorees are Anna Muh and Phong La of Fremont.
According to Wieckowski’s office, Muh is a former member of the Fremont Unified School District Board of Trustees who worked in the information technology industry. She also served as a vice principal at Fremont Chinese School and is a board member of the Citizens for Better Community, where she chairs their internship program.

La is the vice president of PTR Manufacturing Inc., which supplies parts to the solar industry. La is also a realtor, owns a law practice and has taught real estate-related courses at San Jose City College. He’s a former Fremont human relations commissioner and is currently on the board of directors for Bay Area Women Against Rape.
Deepka Lalwani, a Milpitas resident whose active in local business and politics; Zahra Billoo, a Santa Clara resident and executive director of the San Francisco-Bay Area chapter of the Council of American-Islamic Relations; and the Filipino-American National Historical Society, Santa Clara Valley Chapter, are also being honored Friday.
The event will be held at noon at the Milpitas City Hall Council Chambers, located at 455 East Calaveras Blvd. in Milpitas.
