California’s oldest Armenian Congregation will mark its 122nd Annual Armenian Christmas in the Central Valley of the Golden State.

The First Armenian Presbyterian Church of Fresno will welcome the Birth of the Christ Child with multiple Services of Worship during the first full week of calendar year 2020. All events are open to the public and more information is available by calling (559) 237-6638..

On Sunday, January 5, members and friends will celebrate Armenian Christmas, also known as “Epiphany,” at the Church Campus at 11 a.m. That same day they will meet with residents of the California Armenian Home during a 1:45 p.m. Chapel Service. The Armenian Home is located at 6720 East Kings Canyon Road, just off the Temperance Avenue exit to Freeway 180 East.

On Monday, January 6, the traditional date of Armenian Christmas, the Congregation will host friends from more than 100 area Houses of Worship for the Fresno-Clovis observance of 21 Days of Fasting and Praying Together in Central California. Worshippers will petition God for a clear vision for His cities in the year 2020, for revival of the cities to reach the lost, and for unity. The word “Advent” means “coming” or “arrival.” During Advent Season, Christian Churches celebrate the arrival of Jesus of Nazareth in Bethlehem of Judea and watch with hope for his coming again.

Forty immigrants from Marsovan chartered the Fresno congregation in a rented hall on July 25, 1897. The boyhood church of authors William Saroyan and A.I. Bezzerides and filmmaker J. Michael Hagopian, FAPC today is a multigenerational evangelical congregation drawn from the Old and New Worlds.

The FAPC Leadership Team includes Reverend Gregory Vahack Haroutunian, Senior Pastor; Stephen Goodale, Director of Youth MInistries; and Jesse Dunbar, Interim Music Ministry Director.

FAPC is a member congregation of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC) and the Armenian Evangelical Union of North America.
