Fresno Unified is providing extra literacy support for elementary students over the summer, helping them prepare for success when the new school year starts. Efforts include making sure students have access to free books to read over the summer. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade attending the district’s Summer Academy summer school will receive a pack of five grade-level appropriate, culturally diverse books. The pack will come with a student literacy skills journal and a “Family Guide to Literacy” to help parents support reading at home. The books will be available in English and Spanish.

“We know that one of the keys to success in school for our students is reading. The Grab and Go book packs not only provide fun, free books for our students, but ways for families to help support their student’s literacy growth,” said Superintendent Bob Nelson.
