Garza Fire Explodes To 18,666 Acres
The Kings County blaze is about 24 percent contained.
KINGS COUNTY, CA — The Garza Fire has charred 18,666 acres and is 24 percent contained since it started Sunday afternoon. The blaze, which is being fueled by dry grass and brush, started in the area of Tar Canyon Road, near Avenal in Kings County and has now reached Fresno County, fire officials said.
An advisory evacuation warning is currently in place west of Highway 33, according to fire officials.
More than 800 firefighters from all over California, including the Bay Area, along with local law enforcement, are working to contain the fire. Cal Fire officials said the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
