A 17-year-old girl was arrested after entering a plane and driving it into a building and fence at the Fresno airport Wednesday morning.

FRESNO, CA — A 17-year-old girl was arrested after entering an empty plane and crashing it into a building and fence at Fresno Yosemite International Airport, according to multiple reports. The incident took place around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday just off an airport runway.

The girl had run away from home Tuesday night, her mother told KMPH. Police said she entered a King Air 200 propeller-driven plane and managed to start one engine before driving it into a building and fence.

The aircraft never left the ground but it was substantially damaged, KMPH reported. The girl was wearing a headset and sitting in the pilot's seat as she was being taken into custody, and seemed disoriented, the Fresno Bee reported.
