Teen's Live Stream May Show Tragic Calif. Crash That Claimed Her Little Sister's Life: CHP

Obdulia Sanchez, 18, may have been using Instagram live in the disturbing, alleged DUI crash that left her sister, 14, dead.

MERCED COUNTY, CA — An 18-year-old driver may have been recording on Instagram live before, during and after the fatal solo-vehicle collision that killed her 14-year-old sister, according to reports, and the California Highway Patrol says it is investigating those reports.

Obdulia Sanchez, 18, of Stockton, is jailed on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated in a single-vehicle crash in Merced County. The crash that occurred on Friday killed the driver's younger sister, Jacqueline Sanchez, 14, of Stockton. The Merced County coroner has identified the victim, who, according to family members, died just two days before she was to celebrate her quinceañera.

In the live-streamed video allegedly posted by Obdulia Sanchez, the elder sister can be heard saying, "I ... killed my sister ... I know I'm going to jail for life, OK? I understand that ... This is the last thing I wanted to happen ... I don't...care though, Imma ... hold it down."

According to information the CHP has released, Obdulia Sanchez was driving westbound around 6:40 p.m. Friday on Henry Miller Road east of state Route 165 in the Los Banos area when she allowed her car to travel off the north edge of the road. She over-corrected, sending the Buick across the eastbound lane and off the south edge of the road, where it careened through a barbed wire fence and overturned in a field — ejecting two 14-year-old girls who were riding without seat belts in the backseat, according to the CHP.

The rollover crash fatally injured Jacqueline Sanchez, and the other teen suffered major injuries, authorities said.

A local woman who came across the live-streamed video allegedly posted by Obdulia Sanchez told ABC News she recorded the video and re-posted it because "as someone who uses Snapchat I see a lot of people driving with their Snapchats and doing what she was doing so to me it was like an eye-opener."

Family members have confirmed Obdulia Sanchez shot the video, according to the news report.

"Investigators are aware of the possibility of video evidence located on social media," the CHP said in a statement. "Investigators are looking into the validity of these reports."

In addition to being jailed on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, CHP says Obdulia Sanchez is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs in the crash that left her little sister dead.
