Man, 27, Dies In Head-On Crash Near Gilroy: CHP
The crash that occurred on State Route 152 near Bloomfield Avenue east of Gilroy possibly involved two vehicles that hit head-on.
GILROY, CA — A 27-year-old man died in a head-on crash on state Highway 152 near San Felipe Lake in unincorporated southern Santa Clara County on Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported at 7:57 a.m. and officers arrived to find the two-car crash east of Lake Road near the border with San Benito County. CHP investigators determined a 31-year-old Fresno man was traveling west on Highway 152 in a 2000 Ford at about 60 mph when for some reason he crossed over the solid double yellow lines and struck an eastbound 2014 Toyota head-on.
The driver of the Toyota died at the scene and his male passenger was taken by ambulance to a hospital with major injuries. The Ford Driver was taken by medical helicopter to a hospital, also with major injuries, according to the CHP.

The name of the 27-year-old man who died is not yet being released by the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office. Several witnesses and passersby had stopped to assist following the crash, which blocked Highway 152 for about four hours, CHP officials said.
Investigators are looking into whether alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in the crash. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contract Officer Tritenbach at 408-848-2324 or ktritenbach@chp.ca.gov.

The incident closed the highway between State Route 156 and Bloomfield, CHP added.
