String Of Gilroy Shootings Leaves 1 Dead

Three Gilroy shootings were reported in the span of three days. Police are investigating the possibility the shootings are related.

GILROY – One man was killed and another man suffered life-threatening injuries amid a string of shootings in Gilroy over the weekend, police said.

Police have not determined whether there’s a relationship between the incidents but are investigating the possibility, Gilroy police Detective Christopher Silva told Patch.

The suspects fled before officers arrived on the scene in all three incidents, police said.

“Whenever you have three consecutive shootings you’re going to investigate that," Silva said.

Officers and Fire Department personnel responding to a report of a shooting in the 400 block of Fairview Drive Sunday at around 9:30 p.m. found a 35-year-old man who sustained at least one gunshot wound, police said.

The victim was transported to a local trauma center where he was pronounced dead, police said.

On Saturday just before 9 p.m. officers, fire personnel, and medics responded to Santa Teresa Boulevard and Mantelli Drive on the report of a shooting and found the driver of a vehicle in the intersection had been shot and sustained life-threatening injuries, police said.

The a 21-year-old man was transported to a local trauma center and remains in critical condition, police said.

The string of shootings began Friday night.

Officers responded to the 500 block of Fairview Drive on the report of gunshots at around 8:30 p.m. and found several vehicles that had been struck by gunfire, police said.

Several suspects are believed to be involved according to police.

A vehicle that was believed to be involved was located in the area and impounded for evidence processing, police said.

The names of the victims were withheld.

All three incidents are being investigated by the GPD’s Investigations Division and the Anti-Crime Team (ACT).
