GILROY, CA — Anyone who's ever been in a rush but needs a haircut knows the drill.

This is why the new Gilroy Barber Lounge situated downtown operates on appointments only.

"We're the only ones doing that," owner Jason Leon told Patch of his business that's barely a month old. "It's going great, and it's really picking up."

The barbershop represents a unique experience that blends the old-time barber feel to a new style of cuts and shaves. Every service gets a free neck shave and warm towel as a soothing treat for a client's head.

Leon is banking on not only the services and appointment operation to draw people in. Once a client gets there, the aesthetics will offer a familiar look with a barber pole inside the shop and gold decals decorating the exterior.

Even the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce staffers have noticed the clientele picking up at the barber shop two doors down at 7477 Monterey Road where a tax service was once located.

"The place looks beautiful the way he's brightened it up," Chamber Event Planner Victoria Wright said.
