GILROY, CA — A popular Gilroy theme park that’s been around since the 1940s plans to reopen soon.

Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park announced earlier this month on its website it plans to reopen on May 2021.

The park, which first opened in 1944, was developed by Michael and Claudia Bonfante.

Gilroy Gardens is designed to educate guests and to foster a greater appreciation of horticulture.

The park features over 40 rides, attractions, educational exhibits and gardens.

It was originally called “Bonfante Gardens Theme Park.”

“We look forward to welcoming children back to their Gardens. To ensure their safety, we will be planning several operational changes that will be in effect upon our reopening,” Gilroy Gardens Vice President & General Manager Barb Granter said in a statement.
