Gilroy Man Charged With Homicide, Suspect Knew Victim: Police

GILROY, CA — A shooting that left a man dead at a Gilroy business Thursday afternoon was not a random act of violence, according to a preliminary investigation by the Gilroy Police Department.

The suspect, 44-year-old Jose Francisco Valiente-Marinez of Gilroy, was arrested at the scene on the 8200 block of Monterey Street, according to police.

The victim was a 39-year-old Hispanic male and Gilroy resident, said police, who would not release the name until next of kin have been notified.

The two men knew each other, according to police. Police are investigating the motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting.
