Gilroy Opens Cooling Center Amid Heatwave

The Gilroy Public Library will become a cooling center through Labor Day weekend to help those who do not have access to air conditioning.

GILROY, CA — Amid warnings for another massive heatwave in Northern California, the Gilroy Library will open its doors as a cooling center through Labor Day Weekend. As temperatures are forecasted to reach highs of 110 degrees, officials ask residents to use caution while outside.

The Gilroy Library, located at 350 West Sixth St., will be open from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday through Monday. City officials are asking residents to limit sun exposure and stay hydrated as the heatwave persists through the weekend.

Cooling centers offer a refuge for those who do not have air conditioning at home. Social distancing and masks will be required.
