Man Robs Bank with Semi-Automatic Weapon, Steals Car

Written by Bay City News:

A masked man robbed a Citibank in Morgan Hill at gunpoint Friday morning, police said.

Police said the suspect entered the bank, located at 17085 Monterey Road, jumped over the counter and held a bank teller at gunpoint, demanding cash.

Officers responded to reports of the robbery around 10:10 a.m. but were unable to catch the suspect, who fled with an undisclosed amount of money in a stolen gray Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by another suspect, police said.

The four bank employees and a customer inside the bank at the time of the robbery were unharmed.

"The bank employees and customer did exactly what police would hope for in a situation like this," Morgan Hill police Capt. Shane Palsgrove said. "They cooperated with the suspect's demands for money and allowed him to leave. Property and money are replaceable — people are not."

Palsgrove said that after fleeing the scene, the suspects dumped the jeep at an apartment complex about half a mile from the bank and fled in another car.

The suspect who robbed the bank was described as a Hispanic man who is about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build. He was wearing a black ski mask, black gloves, a light gray sweatshirt and light gray pants at the time of the robbery and was armed with a black semi-automatic handgun.

Police have not confirmed a description of the second suspect vehicle.

Anyone with information about the suspects' whereabouts is asked to call Detective Jeff Tacazon at (408) 779-2101 or the Police Department's anonymous tip line at (408) 947-7867.
