Overturned Truck Will Block Highway 101 In Gilroy Through Evening

All southbound lanes of Highway 101 in Gilroy will remain closed into the evening after a fuel tanker rolled over on the highway.

GILROY — Southbound traffic on Highway 101 will remain shut down into Monday evening after a fuel tanker overturned and leaked fuel onto the highway. As of 2:30 p.m., the roadway was expected to stay closed for another four to six hours.

Traffic is being diverted at East San Martin Avenue to Monterey Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. Drivers are urged to expect delays and avoid the area if possible.

A hazardous materials team responded to offload the flammable liquids to another tanker once the tanker involved in the crash was stabilized.
