Police and Fire Chaplains will Host Day of Remembrance on 9/11

Current and retired police, fire, military and emergency personnel are asked to attend in uniform.

The team of chaplains working in Gilroy’s police and fire departments will host a “9/11 Community Day of Remembrance” at the amphitheater on Sept. 11, a decade after the tragedy rocked the nation.

The Sunday event will be at 4 p.m.

The event will feature presentations from the city’s police and fire chiefs, as well as from national disaster relief specialist, Chaplain Jim Uhey.

“The heart and motivation behind this Day of Remembrance is to not only to remember those we lost, but to promote unity within our great city and nation,” wrote Steve Gonzales, who serves with Chaplain Malcom MacPhail at New Hope Community Church, in an email.

In addition to the presentations, organizers will conduct a memorial tribute, flag ceremony, Taps and a 21-gun salute.
