Police Blotter: 19-Month-Old Test Positive For Cocaine

There also was a surge of vehicle break-ins last weekend.




Two 19-month old children were placed in protective custody at the end of August after one tested positive for cocaine, Gilroy police reported. 

The children were taken out of a home on Ticonderoga Place around 10:30 p.m. and placed in protective custody. Police are investigating.

Sunday, Sept. 1
Theft: Four 30-packs of Bud Light and two 24-packs of Shocktop were stolen from a store on First Street just after midnight. The thief fled in a gold Ford Explorer.

Vandalism: Two vehicles were spray painted on Bennett Street around 3 a.m. 

DUI: A 20-year-old man was arrested on Miller Avenue and West Sixth Street around 4 a.m.

Vehicle Burglary: A cell phone, a purse and a backpack were stolen when a thief broke into a car on Murray Avenue. 

Vandalism: A teenager threw books, rocks and shoes over a fence and into the neighbor's pool. 

Shoplifting: Flashlights and an iPad case were stolen from a business on Camino Arroyo.

Stolen Vehicle: A vehicle stolen from Morgan Hill was found in the Walmart parking lot. It had property from a Gilroy burglary inside. 

DUI and Hit-and-Run Crash: A 25-year-old man was arrested on Monterey and West Tenth streets around 6:15 p.m.

Vehicle Burglary: Electronics were stolen from a Honda on Arroyo Circle. 

Saturday, Aug. 31
Assault: A man was assaulted in his home on Arbor Street around midnight. No arrests were made. 

Drunk in Public: A 28-year-old man was arrested on Forest and East Sixth streets around 8 p.m.

Drugs: A man stopped for a bike violation was arrested for having a methamphetamine pipe and meth. 

Vandalism: A vandal threw a rock at the front door of the West Side Market on First Street around 3 a.m. causing about $800 in damage. 

Stolen Vehicle: A white Honda Accord was stolen from Forest Street overnight.

Threats: A 35-year-old woman threatened another person with an kitchen knife in a home on West Tenth street around 4 a.m.

DUI: A 29-year-old man was arrested for DUI on Forest Street and Leavesly Road around 9:30 a.m.

Stolen Vehicle: A man stole his friend's white Pontiac Grand Prix while the friend was sleeping and possibly drove it to King County.

Friday, Aug. 30
Shoplifting: Luggage and clothing worth more than $900 were stolen from Kohl's. 

Vandalism: A Lexus parked at the Las Animas Fire Department was scratched sometime in the past two days.

Car Break-in: A wallet, an iPod, a textbook and other items were stolen from a vehicle parked at the Outlets

Car Break-In: The window of a rental car was smashed at the Outlets. A smart phone, bags, jackets and sunglasses were stolen.

Disturbance: A 28-year-old man was arrested for battery against his mother and fleeing police. It happened on Peterson Drive around 6:30 p.m.

Shoplifting: Items worth $120 were stolen from Kohl's around 7 p.m.

DUI: A 24-year-old man driving a Chevy Blazer evaded police for about five minutes after fleeing a domestic disturbance at McDonald's on First Street. He was caught and arrested for evading and DUI.

Stolen Vehicle: The care was found on East Sixth Street. Two men, both ages 26, were arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, drug possession, having a fake firearm and parole violations.
