Police Blotter: Man Strangles Wife Over Extramarital Affair

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month; Gilroy had some terrible DV incidents at the end of September.

Friday, Sept. 27
Assault: Reported on West Seventh Street around 10:30 a.m.

Domestic Violence: A man angry because his girlfriend hadn't made breakfast allegedly tried to press her face against a hot skillet, dragged her down the hallway by her hair, and punched her in the face and back. The man, age 41, was arrested.

Theft: A wallet was taken out of an unattended purse inside Home Goods on Renz Lane. 

Weapons: Two teenagers were ticketed for having illegal knives after police broke up a street fight on West Eighth and Hanna streets around 3:20 p.m. The teens were released to their parents.

Auto Burglary: Sunglasses were stolen from a car parked on Leavsley Road. 

DUI: A 63-year-old woman was arrested on Fifth Street and Miller Avenue around 9:30 p.m.

Theft: A Halloween pumpkin with an LED light was stolen from a front yard on Doris Court.

Vandalism: A man broke the rear window on a Honda Accord parked on IOOF and Murray avenues.

Thursday, Sept. 26
Drugs: A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of having drugs for sale on Murray Avenue around 9:20 a.m. He also had warrants. 

Recovered Vehicle: A man found his Infinity Q45, which had been reported stolen in Morgan Hill. He spotted it on Monterey and West Sixth streets. 

Assault: A teenager hit mother and grandfather at home on Morningside Circle. 

Vehicle Theft: A 1994 red Honda Accord was stolen from Monterey Avenue.

Marijuana: A student was caught with it on campus on West Tenth Street.

Drunk in Public: A 29-year-old man who caused a disturbance at a bar on Monterey Street was arrested. He also had warrants.

Domestic Violence: A husband strangled his wife after he found out she was sending photos to another man. The husband, age 27, was arrested.

Public Intoxication: A 27-year-old woman was arrested after she caused a disturbance on Hollyhock Lane around midnight. 

Wednesday, Sept. 25
Marijuana: School staff found a backpack with pot and smoking devices in a vehicle parked on Hirasaki Court. 

Weapons: A Solorsano Middle School student had fireworks and a knife with a locking blade on campus.

Stolen Vehicle: A 1995 white Honda Civic was stolen in the afternoon from San Ysidro Avenue. 

Drunk in Public: A 55-year-old man was arrested on Swanston Lane around 8:30 p.m.

Battery: A 34-year-old man was arrested after allegedly head-butting another person, instigating a fight on Fairview Drive. It happened around 5 p.m.

Shoplifting: Items worth $150 were stolen from Kohls. 

Tuesday, Sept. 24
Theft: Two men, ages 21 and 23, were ticketed for stealing whisky from Safeway.

DUI: A man was arrested on Santa Teresa Boulevard and Sunrise Drive around 3 p.m.

Vandalism: Car windows were smashed on Fairview Drive near Hanna Street. 

Burglary: A hedge trimmer, a weed whacker, a BB gun and trimming sheers were stolen from a storage shed on West Tenth Street. 

Monday, Sept. 23
Assault: A teenage boy hit his sister with a lacrosse stick and punched both his mother and father. It happened on Canopy Court. He was arrested.

Shoplifting: A thief was cited for stealing three items from a market on Monterey Street. 

Theft: Tools were stolen from a toolbox in the bed of a pickup parked on Peacock Court overnight.

Car Burglary: A thief smashed a car window to steal a computer bag holding a laptop and other items. It happened on Camino Arroyo in the afternoon.

Theft: Tools were stolen from a job site on Monterey Avenue overnight.
