SOUTH BAY, CA — Most of the Bay Area will be under a heat advisory from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures are forecast to be 15 to 25 degrees higher than normal, with temperatures up to 105 in the hottest, interior areas, NWS said. Afternoon highs are forecast to be in the low 90s to low 100s.

The only areas exempt from the heat advisory are areas along the immediate coastline, from the northern border of Sonoma County to the Pacific Grove edge of the Monterey Bay.

Officials warn that residents should be wary of heat exhaustion or heat stroke after spending prolonged time outdoors. People are especially vulnerable if they must spend a lot of time outside, don't have air conditioning, are elderly, are a young child or have chronic ailments, NWS wrote.

Drink lots of water, stay out of the sun and stay in air conditioning, NWS said. Keep an eye on family, neighbors, pets, crops and livestock.
