Suspect Charged with Pocketing Down Payment for Car

A man posing as a representative of an auto dealer reportedly pocketed $440 in cash that he claimed was for a down payment on a car, according to the Gilroy Police Department.
Having established a relationship with the victim while she was shopping for another car, the suspect reportedly contacted her on July 11 and said that he was representing a different dealer and could get her a specific vehicle with the down payment. He never completed the transaction, and the case has been referred to the district attorney for review, police said.
