Azusa Unified expands California State Preschool Program

Preschools enrolling 3- and 4-year-olds at five schools across the district

Continuing to build on its new designation as a Pre-K-12 school district, Azusa Unified has expanded the California State Preschool Program (CSPP) to four additional schools. Since 2016, the popular program has been offered only at Longfellow Pre-K/Kindergarten School. Morning preschools have now been added at Murray and Mountain View elementary schools; Powell Elementary School of the Arts and Valleydale Elementary now offer afternoon preschools.

“Children who have a high-quality preschool experience enter kindergarten with a wealth of social and academic skills that serve them well at school and for life,” said Early Learning Director Leslie Ford. “We teach in ways that keep learning fun and playful, because play is how very young children learn about the world around them.”

The state-funded California State Preschool Program provides both part-day and full-day services with curriculum that is developmentally, culturally and linguistically appropriate for the 3- and 4-year-old children served. The program also provides meals for children, parent-education opportunities, referrals to health and social services for families, and professional-development opportunities for staff.

Registration for any of the five CSPP locations at the CSPP office at Longfellow School, 245 West Tenth Street. To make sure your child qualifies for the program, parents should call first: 626-815-4724.

All parents must provide verification of income level to show they meet family income requirements set by the state; photo ID; a utility bill or bank statement to verify residency; birth or baptismal certificates for all children in the family, not just the enrollee; and the child’s up-to-date immunization record.

Parents do not have to be Azusa residents to enroll their children, but the district’s priority is to serve families within its boundaries.
