Fork Fire: 166 Acres Burned, Smoky Skies As Containment Grows

On day 3 of the Fork Fire, that injured one firefighter, the blaze has reached 55% containment in the San Gabriel Mountains.

AZUSA, CA — On Tuesday, day three of the Fork Fire, crews worked to improve and complete the containment line, extinguish hot spots, patrol and mop-up the brush fire that evacuated San Gabriel Valley campers over the weekend, the U.S. Forest Service, Angeles National Forest incident commander said.

Late Tuesday, the Fork Fire has reached 55% containment and has remained at approximately 166 acres, Kurt Yearout, U.S. Forest Service ANF said in his 5 p.m. report. Approximately 185 personnel from multiple agencies were at work on the fire.

Aircraft supported ground crews as needed throughout the day as the fire burned through brush, dry grass and chaparral.

The fire continues to burn in gusty winds and warm dry conditions with temperatures during the day hovering in the 90s, dropping at night in the 60s, humidity levels in the day are in the 5 to 15% range and in the evenings.

Incident commanders estimated that the fire will be fully contained by Friday, according to Yearout.
