Kerry Welsh, 18, Killed In Fatal West Covina Crash
The Glendora High School alumna died when a car speeding through a stop sign T-boned her car at an intersection in West Covina.
GLENDORA, CA — Family and friends mourned the death of a Glendora High School alumna who was killed in a car crash Saturday night in West Covina.
Kerry Welsh, 18, was driving through the intersection of Vine and Hollenbeck avenues around 11:15 p.m. when a car sped through a stop sign and crashed into her Honda Civic. She was on her way to pick up her little sister from a birthday party, according to 210 Prep Sports.
The 24-year-old driver of the other car was injured in the crash and was taken to a nearby hospital. Investigators suspected the driver was under the influence at the time of the crash and took him into custody, according to Alexus Napoles, a public information officer for the West Covina Police Department.

He has since been released on bail and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
Welsh graduated from Glendora High in 2020 and was a freshmen at Loyola Marymount University, according to the website. She was named her high school's 2020 Girls Scholar-Athlete of the Year, played soccer during her four years and graduating with a 4.6 GPA, the website reported.

Welsh attributed her success in academics to her parents, Albert and Chiarra Welsh, according to an interview she gave to 210 Prep Sports.
“My dad has sacrificed so much for us and the thing I respect most about him is how courteous he is to everyone, including strangers. He’s also a very selfless man, who began working from home so he could pick me up from school,” Welsh told the site. “My mom graduated from college in the Philippines before moving to United States to become a physical therapist. She’s extremely hard working and someone I admire a great deal.”
