Local Love Stories: Beach Boys Drummer Finds His Surfer Girl
"I met a local Glendora boy named Bobby Figueroa who was the drummer for the Beach Boys."

We asked Patch readers on Facebook to share their local love stories — how they met, where it all went down, and what’s kept them together. This one will make you smile.
Whether you’re a fan of Valentine’s Day or the thought of red and pink decorations makes you want to puke, we’ve got a hunch everyone could use some happy news this month. And what’s happier than a love story?
It all started at a Beach Boys concert for Joanne. Little did she know what was in store for her next.

I was 16 living in Michigan and had a love of the Beach Boys. My mom took me to my first Beach Boys concert when I was 12. I fell in love with Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys and knew one day I would have to meet him and maybe marry him.
Four years later by sheer luck I did meet the Beach Boys. I had found some friends at a concert that loved to travel around to see them in various cities and they asked me to come along. Well, I did meet Carl and he was lovely, but very very in love with his girlfriend who was Dean Martin's daughter! Although true love with him was not meant to be, I did meet a local Glendora boy named Bobby Figueroa who was the drummer for the Beach Boys.

We became instant friends with our common interests in baseball and fishing. Bobby, although quite the ladies man, always treated me like a little sister and made sure none of the other band guys got into any trouble with me.

A couple of years later he married and left the band and a couple years after that I married and had a son. We had lost touch until the early 2000s when we met up at a cancer benefit for Carl Wilson who had passed from lung cancer.
Bobby was single and I was going through a divorce. We chatted via email and IM almost every day after that until in 2010 he asked me to move to Glendora. In 2015, we got married and are still having fun with baseball and fishing!
