Carjacking Reported Outside Half Moon Bay Bank

Sheriff's officials have released a surveillance image of one of the suspects in the case.

HALF MOON BAY, CA — Sheriff's officials are asking the public to be on the lookout for a stolen BMW and the man who took it at gunpoint from someone at a Peninsula ATM. The carjacking happened outside a local bank in Half Moon Bay on Friday night, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

According to Detective Rosemerry Blankswade, a man was withdrawing cash from an ATM at Wells Fargo on 132 San Mateo Road in Half Moon Bay around 8 p.m. when the incident occurred.

"While the victim was withdrawing cash at the Wells Fargo ATM, he was approached by an unknown black male adult suspect who brandished a handgun and demanded cash and the keys to his vehicle," she said in a news release. "The victim did as he was told."

The victim saw two other men in his car as it peeled out, Blankswade said.

A be-on-the-lookout was broadcast, and neighboring police agencies saw the BMW a short while later heading eastbound on state Highway 92 passing the El Camino Real in San Mateo.

"Officers ultimately lost sight of the BMW as it entered the city streets of Hayward," she said, adding that "it is believed a green Honda with unknown license plates, being driven by an unknown black male, was also involved in this crime."

Sheriff's officials also shared the attached image of one of the suspects, in the hopes someone may recognize him.
