Diversity Discussion Series Begins With "Meet a Muslim"

A San Jose-based organization hopes to create a "community of unity" through open dialogues that highlight our diversity.

When politicians call for closing our borders to ethnic and religious groups, it might be time to listen -- to other voices.
To foster understanding and tolerance, Silicon Valley FACES, a non-profit organization dedicated to building a community free of bias, bigotry and violence, will offer a series of community discussions around diversity and acceptance; the first in the series, “Meet a Muslim (And Ask Anything)” takes place on Tuesday, September 27 2016 at 12:00 noon in the Silicon Valley FACES offices at 1401 Parkmoor Avenue, Suite 150, San Jose.
Moina Shaiq, a Muslim woman, mother of four and an active community member from Fremont, will discuss the realities of Islam in America, what it means to be a Muslim woman, and all aspects of her faith with the promise that “all questions are welcome.” “Bring your lunch and your questions, and open your mind and heart. Honest, open dialogue is the starting point to acceptance and mutual respect,” said Silicon Valley FACES Executive Director Samina Masood.
This event has very limited seating: RSVP by Monday, September 19 to Leslie McGarry, 408-286-9663, ext. 404, or lmcgarry@svfaces.org.

Bring a lunch; drinks and dessert will be provided by Silicon Valley FACES.
