Half Moon Bay City Council Recognizes Municipal Clerks Week

City Council of Half Moon Bay unanimously approved a Proclamation recognizing the week of May 6 - 12, 2018, as "Municipal Clerks Week."

From the City of Half Moon Bay: At its meeting of April 17, 2018, the City Council of Half Moon Bay unanimously approved a Proclamation recognizing the week of May 6 - 12, 2018, as "Municipal Clerks Week." The Proclamation acknowledges and honors, with great appreciation, all City Clerks and Deputy City Clerks for the services they provide to their cities and communities. The City Council specifically recognized the critical role of municipal clerks, who serve as the professional link between the community, the City Council, and other government agencies.

The Proclamation was presented to Jessica Blair, City Clerk of Half Moon Bay. "The role of a city clerk is often less-than-visible to the majority of community members,"said Half Moon Bay Mayor Deborah Penrose. "However, it is absolutely a cornerstone of how the City meets the needs of the people who live and work here. I hope that this proclamation helps raise the profile of the highly professional and essential function of municipal clerks."

The International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) sponsors Municipal Clerks Week. A professional association of clerks and deputy clerks from cities, counties, towns, townships, villages, and boroughs, IIMC has 14,500 members throughout the United States, Canada, and 15 other countries. Its website is www.iimc.com.

Mary Kayser, IIMC President and City Secretary of Fort Worth, Texas, urges municipal and deputy clerks to highlight the importance of their roles and functions and the impact the municipal clerk's office has on the public. "The functions of the clerk require a thorough knowledge of law, procedure, administration, and interpersonal relations," said Ms. Kayser. "To keep up with the consistent transformation in local government, many clerks participate in continuing education and seminars, and attend clerk institutes."

Jessica Blair has served as Half Moon Bay's City Clerk since October 6, 2015 and has been a member of IIMC since 2001.
