Man's Body Found Offshore Half Moon Bay Ritz Carlton: SMC Sher.

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Department has determined the man was dead for quite some time. His identity has not been released yet.

HALF MOON BAY, CA — The body of a man was found Sunday and pulled out of the ocean offshore from Half Moon Bay near the Ritz Carlton Hotel, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Deputies were dispatched to the scene 11:17 a.m. on a report of a human body floating in the ocean water. They located a male subject floating in the water off Miramontes Point and retrieved the body. It was determined the man had been dead for quite some time.

The county Coroner’s Office took possession of the body and will identify who this person was once the family has been contacted and a DNA check is conducted. As of midday Monday, the identity had not been released.

Patch learned the man was wearing swimming attire at the time, all but ruling out a fall from the steep, rugged bluffs characteristic of the area.

"We've had some unusual circumstances coast side in the last few weeks," San Mateo County Sheriff's spokesman Rosemerry Blankswade told Patch, referring to three people reported missing in the area.
