Music and Movement with Mommy & Me: New Coastside Series
Providing fun and learning opportunities for toddlers.

Notice how much your kids respond to music and love to dance?
Research has found that for children, music and movement has many benefits and facilitates learning other subjects. Here are what some experts say:
“A music-rich experience for children of singing, listening and moving is really bringing a very serious benefit to children as they progress into more formal learning.” -- Mary Luehrisen, executive director of the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation, a not-for-profit association that promotes the benefits of making music

“Music learning supports all learning. Not that Mozart makes you smarter, but it’s a very integrating, stimulating pastime or activity” -- Kenneth Guilmartin, cofounder of Music Together
"Music brings people together. Through music, children take an inner experience and move it into a shared creative experience. Group music-making releases energy which can be channeled in creative, productive directions. Children learn about themselves and others by playing music together and by listening to each other — tapping into hidden courage that can be played out by singing together or discovering the inner resources to listen quietly to another child's playing." -- Judi Bosco, Board Certified Music Therapist

Coastside resident Meggi Presti has launched a new series for toddler and their parent/caregiver called "Music and Movement with Mommy & Me." Presti is a young mom with a 48-state Elementary Teacher Certification, and former classroom teacher for five years and is current owner of Core Taekwodno in Downtown San Mateo, which provides kids with an opportunity for movement and personal development.
Every Friday, toddlers will be able to learn by engaging in creative play when accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Each session includes 30-minutes of song, dance, instruments and often a story, followed by open play. Sessions cost $7 each and are held 10am–11am in the New Leaf Community Classroom, 150 San Mateo Rd, Half Moon Bay.
